Chapter 54 Meeting Notes: March 2009

Minutes of the monthly meetings are provided here for the convenience of those unable to attend the meetings, and are not to be considered official Chapter records. Only those documents produced and retained by the Chapter Secretary are official. Minutes are posted in the month that they are taken, not the month that they are read and approved. The list of those present is inclusive, and may include non-members and guests.

SBE National: Mike Matovich reported that he had gotten some flyers from SBE in the mail promoting the membership drive and reminding members that Dues are due April 1, 2009. Forms are available on line. The national SBE meeting will be held in conjunction with NAB in Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 21st at 5pm in the South Hall meeting rooms, 2nd floor.

EAS: Tornado test alerts were conducted on March 17. There was a malfunction in the Surry test and that one had to be rescheduled. We are looking for information from the state on how the test went.

Frequency Coordination: Chris Gunnufsen reported that a request was made by WUSH-FM (106.1) to use 949.5 MHz. Frequency Coordinator Keith O’Malley will grant this request. … Mike Matovich reported that the dish farm will be relocated closer to the light rail system to make room for expansion at NSU. NSU will need to relicense Uplink if moved from its current location.

Web: Nothing new.

Membership: Possible New Member in Michael Fenn of Sapphire Communication

Digital Transition: WHRO reported some 35 calls the first day of their transition and after that a couple of calls per day from viewers. Some people had been getting WHRO analog (Channel 15) on Channel 67 indicating that their sets were configured for the Cable bandplan rather than OTA. There are still some cable issues with receive units at cable head ends.

New Business: Next Meeting is scheduled for April 9 at WHRO studios. As it is at NAB time we’re not sure what the program will be. Cindy Edwards of BGS has offered to come up and do a program for SBE some time during the summer. It was also suggested that we schedule a tour of an EOC in the area.

Richard Dyer reports that the outreach program hasn’t gone anywhere further at this time.

Kevin Thompson suggested that we set up an SBE booth for the next annual show.

Program: Whitlock Group Convergence Show

Meeting adjourned at 1:46PM
