Chapter 54 Meeting Notes: January 2006


Minutes of the monthly meetings are provided here for the convenience of those unable to attend the meetings, and are not to be considered official Chapter records. Only those documents produced and retained by the Chapter Secretary are official. Minutes are posted in the month that they are taken, not the month that they are read and approved. The list of those present is inclusive, and may include non-members and guests.

Meeting called to order at 1:06 PM by Chairman Chris Gunnufsen

Self-introductions

December minutes were read by Secretary Russell Taylor.

Committee Report(s):

Treasurer: Frank Butler reported the following: Checking: $2,490.76, Certificate of Deposit: $1,735.00, Petty Cash: $226.74. Total Chapter assets: $4,452.50.
Disbursements: Check number 1075, WHRO for December Lunch.

SBE National: Ted Hand report about FCC ULS new plan to delete Part 74 CPs unless a notice of completeion was send to the FCC after the work was completed. This includes all additional, modifications and deltetions.

EAS: Keith O'Malley was not present. Bob Boone spoke on the concept of a digital emergency alert system that would streamline information delivery to the public via tv, radio, IP, cell phones, etc. Delivery of emergency information through set-top boxes was discussed as well as sharing information among municipalities.

Certification: Bill Swartz was not present.

Web: 8-VSB Measurement Seminar flyer/registration is available on the chapter website.

Frequency Coordination: Ted Hand reported problems with Aural STL's between WGH-FM and WRJR/WTJZ, it was worked out. WGH-FM will apply for 450.2125 and 450.2875 for RPU use. WQDK-FM has installed 948.675, (Horiz) from Ahoskie, NC to Harrellsville, NC.

Membership: Richard Dyer nothing to report, suggested that the meeting information be send to the Va. Pilot business section each month.

DTV seminar: 8-VSB Measurement Seminar flyer/registration has been completed. Seminar will be held on Thursday March 16, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the WHRO studios. Chris Gunnufsen is working on arrangements for the seminar including a possible reception to be held the day before the seminar. Doug Davidson is working on sponsorship of the seminar.

Program: Doug Davison was present. Programs have been planned to May.

New business: John Heimerl made a motion to create a “Digital Transition” committee. The motion was seconded by Ted Hand. A vote was taken and the measure was approved. This committee will work on standardizing naming used by tv stations in the program guide for main/sub-channels. The goal is to have a standard set of labels used by all tv stations in the market to reduce confusion among consumers.

The program was by Pro-Bel, Don Cardone, National Sales Manager for Vistek Electronics, spoke on video/audio delay measurement for broadcast.
