Chapter 54 Meeting Notes: July 2005

Minutes of the monthly meetings are provided here for the convenience of those unable to attend the meetings, and are not to be considered official Chapter records. Only those documents produced and retained by the Chapter Secretary are official. Minutes are posted in the month that they are taken, not the month that they are read and approved. The list of those present is inclusive, and may include non-members and guests.

Committee Report(s):

Treasurer: Treasurer Frank Butler reported a balance of $2,677.80 in checking, $1,725.02 in certificate of deposit, and $327.74 in petty cash. Disbursements made were a check (number 1062) for $166.97 to Smokey's BBQ to pay for June lunch, a check (number 1063) for $35.00 to Chris Gunnufsen for drinks, a check (number 1064) for $40.40 to Ted Hand for travel expenses. Collections made were $100.00 for June Lunch. A sponsorship (DTV 8-VSB seminar) check for $700.00 from Microwave Radio was received and deposited.

EAS: EAS coordinator Keith O'Malley stated that the National Weather Service has issued numerous alerts lately due to severe weather. Several of the alerts contained no audio.

Certification: SBE certification tests were given on June 5 and June 9.

SBE National: No news from SBE national to report.

Frequency Coordination: Ted Hand was not present.

Program: Doug Davidson introduced Bob Ellis from Tektronix. The August meeting will be held at the WTKR-DT transmitter site. Statmon Technologies will present at the September meeting. Sony will present at the October meeting and show it's XDCam. Omneon will present in November and Pro-Bel in December. Discussion on DTV 8-VSB Seminar: Bob Boone needs list of sponsors before sending out registration forms. Doug Davidson will e-mail Bob a list of sponsors. The 8-VSB seminar is scheduled for September 16th. Registration forms will be made available on the Chapter 54 website once completed. Seminar information has been sent out to surrounding SBE chapters. A registration fee of $45.00 for each attendee pays for a $35.00 book and a $10.00 lunch. Nomination Committee: The members of the nominating committee are Keith O'Malley (chairman), Russell Taylor, and Bill Swartz. The Chapter bylaws state that a Nominating Committee shall be appointed by the Chairman at least (90) days prior to the date fixed for the election of officers. The election will take place at the October meeting. The nominating committee will nominate a slate of officers and notify each active member no later than the September membership meeting. Program: Bob Ellis from Tektronix did a presentation on MPEG streams and factors affecting video quality in a compression system. He also gave a demonstration of the Tektronix MTM400 MPEG stream analyzer.
